Part 3

“Nunah! Gugah is coming and there’s something coming with him!”

“Come away from the window then, Baisah,” said Gesah, her mother.

Gesah made an excuse for looking through the window as she took an extra bowl and spoon from the shelf. What have the gods sent us? she asked.

Another look out the window revealed Greefr picking up various tools and objects and showing them to the two-legged stranger.  She knew what that meant. (more…)

Part 2

Engrem climbed out of the landing craft after the other two.  The fresh air was a welcome respite to the canned atmosphere of the ship.  Even the acrid smell of manure on the nearby fields was preferable to sweaty bodies.

“I see one of the locals over there,” said the commander.  “You say you’re good with languages, Barinium. Go to it. We wanna mine that mountain.”

“Are we sure they’re friendly?” asked Engrem.  “We did just tear up this field!” (more…)

This is the first installment of what I hope to be a series of ‘glimpses’ from the first contact between koplushiandand breehahs.  These are not meant to be ‘chapters’ in a larger work, nor full blown, necessarily complete stories.  Depending on how things go, I may be able to sew them together one day.  We can hope.  To see the other installment (once there are some,) look for the link in the tags for ‘hihemide’. Word of ‘the day’

August 17, 2018

I’ve decided to post an occasional ‘Word of the Day’ in one of my conlangs, mostly breehah over on Instagram. If you want to follow them, just go and Follow @planet_koplushia on Instagram.

The posts will be more than just a word.  I’ll be including the definition, the layman’s pronounciation, some information where appropriate, and even the word written in glyphs when available. Here is the first post, so you can see what I’ll be doing. (more…)

Kernel of an idea for the look of a Koplushian landing craft of the period.  They don’t have transporters like on Star Trek.

Been thinking lately of trying to write a bit of fiction again. It would be a short piece about the first contact between the Koplushians and the breehah. I’ve gotten as far as naming a few of the characters and (perhaps) deciding where the story would begin. Stuff like that remains up in the air until it actually gets written in. The problem will be deciding where to end the story as if the whole entire tale were told, it might be novel length and I do NOT want to try that again, at least not now.

The title of this post means ‘the first meeting’ in the breehah language.

Do you speak humanish?

breehah shirt cpEver since I created the Breehah alphabet I’ve wanted to make this shirt. In English it says ‘Do you speak Earthish?” which in the breehah language would be ‘Hais horpe kahpoohorgah?’  Buy yours now while they last!

Breehah glyphs and numerals

February 10, 2018

I’ve finally designed the letters and numerals of the breehah language. In the image below you can see that I’ve also given the letters names. In writing the words of the language these letters also act as syllables. So like our texting abbreviations, they don’t write the vowel after the letter if the name of the letter already has that vowel, much like the we write ‘OK’ instead of ‘okay’.

I’ll make a TinyCard deck for those who would like to learn this alphabet. It’s all fun. Hais horpe breehah horgah?

Josi

josi native of SilonarThe josi is a ‘Chicken’-like reptilian animal, domesticated for the eggs it produces. It has been bred into subspecies that can thrive in almost any climate on the planet Silonar. Aside from their eggs, josis are best known for the loud screech they make while laying eggs.

rEEKi!, [urEEki!] the sound a josi makes.

A josi joke in breehah and English:

TOku TOku
knock knock

BOke nos?
Who is it?

BOOlah JOsi
Rude Chicken-like creature

BOOlah JO…
Rude chick…

rEEki!

Got Milk?

The metah shown above is a native Silonarian animal, very important to their way of life. It is a source of milk (jetai), meat (legr), wool (geme), and hide (fahree), not to mention fertilizer (sahlumo.)  Given the importance of this animal in traditional breehah life, it is possibly related to metoo, the breehah word for ‘live’.

The picture above is a humorous breehah take on the popular ‘Got Milk’ campaign here on Earth. It also demonstrates what I call the ‘question’ tense of the verb, the ‘s’ on ‘hois‘.

Breehah

breehah standingDescription: A breehah is a marsupial being native to the planet Silonar in the Poke system. It looks like a centaur-shaped dog standing at about 1.3 meters tall on all fours and has two elbow joints per arm. Its head is egg shaped with one compound eye, two trumpet-like ears and two fuzzy antennae. Below the eye is a slit-like mouth flanked on either side by a row of breathing slits. The mouth is used exclusively for eating or speaking. The antennae sense odors and indicate a few emotional states. Normally the antennae will droop slightly forward. When angry they stand straight up. When happy, they will droop forward and be turned outward. Confusion is shown by crossed antanae and sadness by forward drooping turned inward. Fear is shown by backwards leaning antennae. (more…)
